Emergency numbers in Qatar: the list to keep
Only one number to remember in an emergency in Qatar: 999. But between the embassy, Kahramaa, hospitals and taxis, it’s worth keeping the full list on hand. Here it is, checked against official sources, to bookmark or save in your phone as soon as you arrive.
🚨 The main emergency number: 999
In Qatar, 999 is the single emergency number for police, ambulance and fire. It runs 24/7 and operators speak several languages (Arabic, English, and often French). It’s the reflex to have in case of immediate danger, an accident or a serious medical problem.
Other emergency numbers
- 992: emergencies for deaf or hard-of-hearing people (video call, SMS, e-mail 992@moi.gov.qa).
- 919: domestic violence, protection of women and children. AMAN centre helpline, 24/7, in several languages.
- 991: Kahramaa, electricity and water outages or emergencies (power cut, leak…). Also reachable on WhatsApp at 3030 3991.
French embassy: if something goes wrong
If you’re a French national and run into trouble (lost passport, accident, hospital stay, an issue with the authorities…), the French embassy in Doha is your point of contact.
- Switchboard (office hours): +974 4402 1777
- Emergency, embassy: +974 4402 1888
- Consular emergency line (French nationals in distress, outside office hours): +974 6684 5083, with an additional mobile at +974 7781 6281.
In practice: for a routine matter, call the switchboard. For a serious emergency affecting your safety, outside opening hours, the consular emergency line takes over.
Useful everyday numbers
- 16001: consumer protection and commercial disputes (Ministry of Commerce and Industry). Also on WhatsApp at +974 6611 1400.
- Health (Hamad Medical): 16060 (the “Nesma’ak” call centre: appointments and information, 24/7); Hamad General Hospital switchboard at +974 4439 5777.
- Hamad Airport (HIA): information and lost and found +974 4010 6666; airport police +974 4010 9666; airport fire and medical emergency +974 4010 9222.
- Karwa taxi (Mowasalat): 800 8294 (or via the Karwa app).
Good to know
- Qatar country code: +974 (to call from abroad).
- 112 technically works from a mobile, but in Qatar the official emergency number is still 999: that’s the one to dial.
- There is no dedicated number for sea rescue or a poison control centre: those emergencies also go through 999.
